About me

Hi, I’m Alice! I’m a freelance science journalist with a background in environmental biology. More about me on my website here.

If you’re visiting from outside of Substack, you may know me as someone who usually writes about animals and environmental issues. You may expect this newsletter to be about wildlife and conservation. However, that’s not the case. This is a place where I write about people, and broader philosophies about life.

Why?

In short, I’m a big picture thinker. I don’t believe that things exist in silos. The climate crisis, growing misinformation, inequalities in public health, much of this is linked in what values we hold as a society. And so I am fascinated with how people think. My mind turns with the questions: How did we all get to where we are today? How are our worldviews shaped? What goes on inside all of our heads?

These questions are not only helpful for understanding ourselves, but also, I hope, in helping to make sense of the chaos that dominates much our world. My goal is that the things I write here inspire people to look inward, but to also reach out. To think about things maybe a little bit differently than what the dominant media narrative entails. Most of my posts will be written from the lens of things that are happening in my own life, as well as greater conversations that I notice are happening around me.

As of now, the newsletter will be sent out around once a month. By subscribing, you’ll be able to get those emails sent directly to your inbox.

Thanks for your interest! Talk to you soon.
